Vikram's journey began when he discovered mesmerizing handpan performances on YouTube, sparking his passion for the instrument. After months of research and experimentation, he crafted his first handpan and dedicated himself to perfecting his craft.
With a strong focus on meticulous craftsmanship and sustainability, Vikram uses eco-friendly materials and practices in every creation. Though currently a solo venture, he envisions growing Mantra Handpans into a small team to expand his work and bring the beauty of handpans to more people.
What is your company name? And what is the meaning/inspiration behind it?
Mantra Handpans. Inspired by the calming power of mantras, Mantra Handpans represents the harmony of sound and meditation, where each handcrafted handpan becomes a tool for deep relaxation and musical exploration.
Who is your company run by? Do you work alone or with a team of people?
Vikram Shastri. Currently, it’s a one-person company, but I aspire to work with a small team in the future to grow and enhance my craft.

How did you first discover the Handpan?
I first discovered the handpan through YouTube, where I stumbled upon mesmerizing performances that captivated me. The unique sound and the way it resonated with emotions inspired me to explore the instrument further and eventually start building my own.
What made you decide to start building Handpans?
It was very difficult to buy a handpan when I first discovered handpans. I came across a forum where some people were discussing how to make handpans. I started reading and making notes and then a few months later, decided to try building handpans.
What is your goal as a Handpan builder?
As a Handpan builder, my goal is to create instruments of high quality that evoke a sense of soulfulness, inspiring profound emotional connections through every note.
What would you say your instruments are known for?
My instruments are known for their timbre and the option for custom scales, enabling musicians to explore their personal sound and creativity.
What are your most and least favorite things about being a Handpan builder?
My favorite thing about being a Handpan builder is the creative process—designing, shaping, tuning an instrument. The most challenging part is the precision and patience required to get the tuning just right, but it's all worth it when the final product resonates beautifully.
